DoCoMo offering free iPhone 5S

Huge competition between Japan telecom companies lead DoCoMo to offer free iPhone 5S with a 2 years contract. Japans best carrier NTT DoCoMo's president  Katoru Katō, announced that he will be revealing very soon if they get a beneficial agreement with Apple.


Apples requires carriers to sell a certain amount of iPhone 5S's per year to make a mutual contract. DoCoMo sells 23.5 million phones every year and the president of DoCoMo's said they reach the Apple's requirements by just accounting 20 to 30 percent of overall company's smartphone sales to iPhone 5S. This move will surely effect and suffer the sales of other domestic phone suppliers  that are partnered with DoCoMo like Sharp and Fujitsu.

DoCoMo is planned to offer 16GB version of iPhone 5S. Reports are that some other Japanese carriers are planning to make the same move i.e SoftBank and KIDDI (au) which are heavy competitors to NTT DoCoMo. SoftBank was the only provider of iPhone in Japan till 2011.
