How to insall and run exe files in Linux

A very common problem that most of the users face working in Linux, is that they are unable to open .exe files. As the architecture of Linux is a lot different different than Windows therefore exe files can't be run and executed in Linux or any other operating system i.e Macintosh etc. The problem can be solved by either running a Virtual Machine in Linux to run the exe file or by installing a Windows emulator in Linux which will run the exe files. The process of Virtual Machine for running exe file is a bit lengthy and complex as compared to the emulator, therefore in this tutorial I will teach you how to run exe files in Linux through a Window emulator. Either both methods are legit and can be used to run a exe file in Linux.

There are a few Windows emulators in Linux but the most popular and stable is WINE, so lets get started on how to install WINE in Linux and how to use it to execute exe file in Linux.

Installing WINE in Linux

To install WINE, open the terminal. (Alt+F2)
Type the follow command in the terminal
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.5
When prompt type "Y" to continue the installation.

Thats all WINE is installed in you Linux OS. To run the EXE file simply right click on it and select run in WINE and the exe file will execute.
